The one key fob that I own for my 2003 Odyssey (we lost the other one) is so old that it doesn’t stay together any more. The one half has the chip and the buttons, the other half holds the battery. Is it possible to buy a new (or at least newer) fob and just swap out the innards?

if the casing of the remote is the only issue, it should be fine with a replacement shell.
Sometimes duct tape and zip ties are not the answer in the car world :]
Also suggest a new battery just so won’t have to get in there again any time soon

How does one find a replacement casing for a 13-y-o remote?

why not glue it? some strategic glue that is super ought to do the trick.

I want to be able to open it in the event I need to replace the battery.

just dab the corners, you should be able to pry it apart later...like spot welding. Plus is appears to have a batter access cover separate from the shell.

I think this calls for a thin strip of duct tape. It can fix anything.

That’s what rubber bands are for...

Yeah, I did for my equinox. It included the rubber part and both 1/2 shells. I got mine on Amazon.

Yeah, I thought about that. I’m looking for something slightly more elegant for my posh Oddy.

But then I’ll get glue in my pocket.

Well just leave the keys in the ignition - that solves 2 problems! And, would anyone steal it?

They might. But even with the insurance, I can’t afford to replace it.

Advance and oreallys normally have an assortment of cases near the registers that may work. Or amazon.

Yes, you can do that. Look on eBay and you might even be able to get them in funky colors.

I have one from our 2002 Odyssey that you can have. The Ody is gone and it’s not doing any good sitting in a drawer. PM me your address and i will mail it to you.

And that honda reliability!

Reliable, yes, but I had to swap the engine last summer because of a blown head gasket. It was cheaper, and safer, to put a lower mileage used engine in rather than fix the old one.

As Tom and Ray often pointed out.
